The Historical Atlas
This site is run by the Ordnance Survey/Landmark Information Group. Includes an archive of maps dating from the nineteenth century for all areas of the UK. Ideal for studying local history and historical settlement patterns. A huge collection of links to historical maps including ancient vies of the world, maps illustrative of historical events/developments and complete historical atlases. The Historical Atlas of the 20th Century is an excellent source of interactive illustrative maps on 20th century world history. There are not only maps showing specific places/events but also comparisons of living conditions, population, religion etc. across countries and regions.

HyperHistory
United Nations
HyperHistory is a general history site covering 3000 years of world history. The maps section is particularly strong displaying maps illustrative of seven periods of world history with links to more detailed regional maps. This page is the United Nations Cartographic section - it offers scores of downloadable .pdf format maps that may be of use in the classroom. High quality material that can be freely printed out and used.
