Having been a deputy for some time, I was convinced that I would go straight to route 2(development stage). I was disappointed when I was offered route 1(access), so I rang them up for feedback. They said that although I had a wealth of experience, I didn't give enough detail about the outcome of my actions. Also it is very important to have a clear vision. I'm currently half way through development stage now. It is definitely worth the agrivation of filling the form in, as I am thoroughly enjoying every part of it. I hope this is helpful. Good luck. Sandy.

Just received my NPQH application pack and the application form sounds horrendous. Are there any examples out there to give me an idea where to start? I'm willing to share mine when I've done it!

Have you been to one of the information meetings? I've heard they are very good and do offer advice for filling in the form. You'd also meet other people who are going to be doing it as well.
They are on at the moment so check on the NCSL website for details of any near you.

Good luck - rather you than me!

Forgive the lack of sympathy here, but anyone who thinks that an npqh is anything but a way of weeding out anyone with the common sense and self confidence to say "B****r this for a game of soldiers, I am a teacher not an administrator" is even more deluded than I imagined. Once you could rely on a head to be someone who had been through the ranks and understood teaching beyond the "workshops" and powerpoint presentations that pass for training nowadays. The only impact an npquh has is to encourage the ambitious candidate to start up hare-brained and half-baked initiatives in already-overworked and demoralised schools. If you can't even work out how to fill in the form, do really think you are of the calibre required to be a head? Unless, of course, heads are now merely pen-pushers who are there to do the bidding of governors and government alike. Just because you are on the "leadership spine" doesn't mean you have leadership skills; nor, indeed, a spine. Never has the term "over-promoted" been so widely heard in schools.

Agree whole heartedly with you anti... however think you may have missed a link. What we need in schools are people who don't particularly want to follow all those beaurocratic rules and are prepared to stick their nose out and be counted. If this means jumping through a few hoops to get in a position where what you think and and say acually can have some kind of effect then so be it. Too many teachers are too afraid to say anything and when they do it falls on deaf ears. Completing npqh to me is about the role of the headteacher. Maybe they haven't 'weeded me out yet' but I know that if our profession had stuck their necks out long before npqh then maybe our schools would not be as over worked and demoralised as you say they are!
